Lake County Lifetime Resident and Pastor Receives a Free, New Roof

Bethel Church Pastor, Dexter Harris, is receiving the gift of affordable housing along with a free, new roof courtesy of local roofing contractor, M&M Home Remodeling Services and national shingle manufacturer, GAF. On Thursday, September 3 at 2:30pm, Pastor Harris, along with members of the congregation will share in the roof certificate presentation ceremony at the soon-to-be Harris Family Home, 1838 Adams Street, Gary, IN.

Pastor Harris has shared his desire to live in the same community he serves and finally after a year of uncertainty and economic crisis, the home is officially under construction. Local contractors, like M&M Home Remodeling, are stepping up to ensure the job gets done before the end of year.

“Words can never express our sincere gratitude for Habitat, the volunteers, and M&M Home Remodeling Services,” says Pastor Harris. “My family and I are looking forward to thanking everyone in person. We are home!”

Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana serves struggling, working families earning between 30 to 80% of the average income of Lake County, Indiana. “Our organization exists on the pillars of building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing,” says Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana Executive Director, Dawn Michaels. “We are incredibly thankful of M&M Home Remodeling Services and GAF for donating their services and material.”

Partner families are required to volunteer 300 “sweat equity” hours to help build their home, as well as take a 10 hour financial budgeting course on basic home maintenance. Partner families qualify for zero percent mortgage through Habitat that includes taxes and insurance.
